PEOPLE & COLLABORATORS
CRAD is a group that collaborates. We understand that architecture, design, and research depend on healthy and creative collaboration with other architects, artists, and designers, in addition to the fundamental collaboration with clients, contractors, consultants, and users.
We establish a platform and framework for good communication, a flexible approach to consulting and exchanging ideas, and a clear delineation of responsibilities from the outset. A close-knit team undertakes design with the client, and the team that starts a project sees it through to completion, providing continuity throughout. We commit ourselves to achieving the best outcome by approaching each project with an open mind and providing ongoing active support from initial design through production and construction.
Knowledge
Our practice is structured on collaboration, research, architecture, design, and experimentation. This gave us the strength to provide a range of artistic, architectural, and design services.
We create buildings and provide research services; we create places, spaces, masterplans, landscapes, art, infrastructure, and even design bespoke furniture. We are artists, problem solvers, and explorers. We give a unique artistic solution to everything we produce, and we compose space and form using design, art, photography, and sculpture. We strive to push the boundaries of design by examining the creative industry's entire philosophical, political, social, and economic substructure.
We specialise in large-scale projects that have the greatest positive cultural impact and bespoke architectural spaces, places, and atmospheres for the art and artists. We create galleries, museums, and residential properties for art-loving clients.
OUR APPROACH
To clearly outline our approach, we have defined the fundamentals of our service. At CRAD, the design is a process of selection, composition, and editing. All human creations are based on a selection process of forms, materials, locations, functions, etc. These selections are then composed and edited to provide a design. This fundamental understanding allows us to have a straightforward design and decision-making process to innovate sustainable, integrated, and bespoke strategies.
Mass, light, and space are the core of our design approach. Throughout the design process, these elements are analysed continuously in the given environment and scale to develop a character and atmosphere that engage the emotions. When we evaluate mass, light, and space, we find that the form is sacred, colour is precious, and the void is captured. The design board maintains the practice's design ethos by taking overall design responsibility for every project throughout its stages. We carry out designs by a small, close-knit team that sees the project through completion. Thus we provide continuity and efficiency.
Design = Selection . Composition . Editing
Social and Environmental Responsibility
We always put people and the environment above all we do. We shape our environment, and it shapes us. Social and environmental sustainability are integral to our work. We thoroughly research the existing context, users and communities, materials, sources and supply chain, and construction and assembly methods to provide socially and environmentally sustainable designs. These designs will improve the quality of life for current and future generations.
We strive to ensure that all our policies, practices, and productions are ethical and fair. This is done via reviews, mentorship, and a dedicated fairness officer within the practice. We operate transparently, provide equal opportunities, and ensure men and women are paid equally for equivalent tasks.
We abide by our Corporate, Social and Environmental Responsibility Policy, Privacy Policy, Gender Pay Gap statement, Anti-Slavery (including modern slavery in the supply chain or during construction) and Human Trafficking Statement, Equal Opportunities Policy, Supplier Code of Conduct, and Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy.
